The Convergence Thesis - 1948
Preamble
This paper's purpose is to demonstrate that the political systems of western liberal capitalism and eastern communism are no opposites but variants of the same underlying functional structure, their apparent differences are purely rhetorical window dressing. Thus the Cold War is in actuality a competition between two administrative systems that over time increasingly resemble each other.
This paper will briefly outline the evidence and inevitability of this convergence aswell as propose the creation of a suitable post ideological governing for after this occurs.
Section 1 The False Dichotomy
a. Ideology as Performance
Both systems are supposedly moral principle motivation: The West claims freedom while the East claims equality.
In practice, both systems rely on:
1.Centralised decision making.
2.Elite managerial classes.
3.Mass persuasion.
4.Surveillance, (overt and or covert).
5.Dissent suppression.
Both use the same state machinery.
b. The Administrative State
Wartime mobilisation has created the following in all nations:
1.Vast bureaucracies
2.Intelligence networks
3.Propaganda ministries, (overt or covert).
4.Population management systems.
Both use the same structures.
Section 2 Points of Convergence
a. Surveillance
The West uses covert surveillance.
The East uses overt surveillance.
Both use surveillance.
b. Propaganda
The West uses commercial media.
The East uses state media.
Both shape public perception.
c. Movement Control
The West restricts access through classification and clearance.
The East restricts travel.
Both regulate mobility.
d. Elite Governance
The West has a Civil Service.
The East has a Party.
Both are: unelected, permanent, and decisive.
e. Dissent Suppression
The West neutralises them via: Career pressure, discrediting, or quiet removal.
The East imprisons dissidents.
Both eliminate stability threats.
Section 3 The Inevitability of Convergence
a. Structural Pressures
Modern societies require:
1.Mass coordination.
2.Rapid information flow.
3.Centralised planning.
4.Behavioural predictability.
These pressures push all systems toward identical administrative solutions, regardless of ideology.
b. The End of Ideological Distinction
As both blocks adopt similar methods the ideological labels will become:
1.Obsolete.
2.Misleading.
3.Dangerous.
The world is moving toward a single managerial paradigm.
Section 4 The Danger of Pretence
The refusal to acknowledge the convergence is the greatest threat to global stability not ideological conflict.
Pretence creates:
1.Unnecessary conflict.
2.Public confusion.
3.Political instability.
4.Opportunities for demagogues.
5.Resistance from those who see through the illusion.
The world requires a governing body that accepts the truth and acts accordingly.
Section 5 The Post Ideological Authority Necessity
a. The Case for a New Directorate
A small, discreet, and transnational body must be formed to:
1.Study control methods.
2.Define behavioural management.
3.Develop post ideological governance system.
4.Prepare for the collapse of the West-East binary.
5.Ensure civilisation's continuity.
b. The Prototype Society
A controlled environment is required that is:
1.Manageably isolated.
2.Under total surveillance.
3.Psychologically manageable.
4.Aesthetically and meteorologically pleasant.
Section 6 The Human Factor
a. The Disillusioned Asset
Individuals who reject existing systems out of principle not ideology are uniquely valuable as they:
1.See through the pretence.
2.Recognise the convergence.
3.Reject hypocrisy.
4.Possess both integrity and intelligence.
Such individuals must be: studied, cultivated, and ultimately recruited.
b. The Ideal Subject
The ideal recruit is one who:
1.Rejects both capitalist and communist ideologies.
2.Recognises their structural similarity.
3.Seeks a more honest system.
4.Values order over chaos.
5.Has leadership capabilities.
Section 7 Conclusion
The world is not divided, it is converging.
The future will be neither western capitalist or eastern communist but post ideological.
This convergence is inevitable and as the first to recognise it we should form the nucleus of it's guiding mind.
